Oman a land of great natural beauty on the southeast corner of the Arabian Peninsula, for a long time, has been living under the shadow of its more glamorous neighbor - the UAE. It is true that Oman still feels caught in time but isn’t that what we are looking out for in this new age of fast food?
Come with us to a country, which shares its sea and a part of its culture with our western coast. A country where deserts and mountain cliffs go hand in hand and where turquoise waters enchant you under the sun as much as the soft cool sands do under the starry skies.

We arrive in Muscat late at night and check in to our hotel for an overnight stay.
After checking out, proceed to visit the Grand Sultan Qaboos mosque, a perfect example of Omani architecture made with 3 lac tonnes of Indian sandstone. [Headscarf and full sleeves clothes compulsory] The prominent feature of the mosque is the carpet that covers the prayer hall from end to end and took 4 years to make. We will also visit the Bait Al Zubair museum where entire Oman is represented through its regions.
After lunch, we will visit the Royal Opera House to marvel at its acoustic and architectural features. Later, we will depart for Sur, we'll drive parallel to the Arabian Sea in the last stretch of the journey. Dinner and overnight stay in Sur.
Our morning will be at leisure .Have breakfast and then set off to drive to the north, parallel to the coastline.
The Bimmah Sinkhole is a natural wonder, and in the local tongue it means ‘Star has struck’. A crater-like formation which is filled with an emerald-green lake. Simply immersing your legs in the water is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, even if you decide not to swim. It feels like a foot spa where tiny fish come and nibble at your feet as you relax in the serene surroundings of the sinkhole.
The next few hours of our day promise to be a very new experience. We will drive a further 20 km to arrive at the 4 x 4 change stop of the Wadi Al Arbeieen. Wadi is nothing but an oasis, one where life is supported by running water from the ground. We will venture with a 4-wheeler inside the wadi and experience its life with its waters and date plantations. The temperature inside is around 3 - 4 degrees less. We will make photo stops to capture the Wadi in its different moods. We must walk around in waterproof footwear.
Later we will taste the traditional food in a small resort and then take a dip in the waters. Drive back to Sur just about in time for the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
In the morning, leave for Wadi Bani Khaled. This wadi is bigger and more approachable than Arbeieen. There are multiple pools to swim in or just look at, but this might require hiking of various levels of difficulty.
Later we shall venture out into Wahiba Sands. To go into the desert from the main road we will need to get into the 4 x 4 vehicle again. Our night stay would be in the desert camp. In the evening, we will enjoy some dates and Omani coffee and then later walk to the dunes to enjoy the sunset. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp under the starry sky.
The sunrise (optional excursion) is as spectacular as the sunset in the Wahiba sands. We will also get to explore the desert on camelback or a desert car (optional activity). After breakfast, we will drive towards Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman and the hallmark of Omani culture.
Post lunch, we will check in to our hotel (designed in local Nizwa style) to freshen up and later head to the perched village of Misfat Al Abriyeen. We will enjoy our evening tea in the lush green setting amidst the arid landscape. The old town walk might require a little going up and down the steps.
Return back to the hotel in Nizwa for dinner. A walk in the old town at night is a must where dim-lit houses illuminate the streets under the night sky.
Early morning we will head out to the local Souq, the weekly goat market is a must-witness event for which people come from all around the region. We will spend some time in the Nizwa Souq and the Nizwa Fort. The forts in the desert are built considering the climate and topography. However, every bit of simplicity that has gone into building the castle is reflected in the Omani hospitality of today. After a leisurely morning, we will depart for Muscat and enjoy lunch before checking in.
In the evening, we will experience the Muscat Corniche from a dhow and later visit the Muttrah Souq for some last-minute shopping. After a local dinner, head to the airport to catch the flight back home.
